About Cubs

Cub Scouts (aka 'cubs') at The Gap is for both boys and girls aged between 8 & 11. In terms of age it sits between the younger Joey Scouts and older Scouts, and is affiliated with the worldwide movement known as Scouts or Scouting, through Scouts Queensland & Scouts Australia.

Cub Scouts is based on Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book". A cubs section is called a pack and each pack is broken up into colours (a group of six cubs), with a 'Sixer' as leader who is supported by a 'Second'.

As in other sections of Scouting, Cub Scouts have an Award and Achievement system, where cubs receive recognition for their participation in line with the Cub Scout Promise and Law. This is evidenced as badges shown on their navy blue with yellow uniform.

Cub Scout Leaders (adults) are known to the cubs by their Jungle Book name and are volunteers who are required to complete formal training in line with Scouts Australia requirements. Cub Scout Leaders (QLD) are required to hold a Queensland Government Positive Notice Blue Card.
